Belgium: Court acquits the Church of Scientology of organised crime charges
In a key decision, a Brussels court ruled on Friday that the Church of Scientology was not guilty of forming a criminal organisation. The court dismissed calls for the Scientologist churches in Belgium to be closed.
Speaking after the decision, Minister of the Church of Scientology Eric Roux said that this decision was important for the freedom of other religions as well, "To attack Scientologists based on the religious writing of the founder. If you start to do that, tomorrow you can take the Qu'ran and say, 'Look, there is written something there. If you are a Muslim, then you need to be convicted.'"
