Syria: Damascus suburb residents return to their homes after ceasefire
Footage released on Thursday shows residents beginning to return to the suburbs of Damascus, Wednesday, following the implementation of the Syrian ceasefire. Residents returning to the area were provided with humanitarian aid from the Red Cross and Russian Armed Forces.
Around 60,000 residents have returned to the area since militants were forced from the territory despite much of the infrastructure and residential buildings having been destroyed. Fighting over the territory ended around two and a half years ago when the Syrian Army managed to force out the militants.
Russia and the United States reached an agreement on a ceasefire in Syria on February 22. On February 26, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2268 approving the Russian-American joint statement on the cessation of hostilities, which came into effect on February 27 at 00:00 Damascus time (February 26 at 22:00 GMT).
