Greece: Meet Fadi, the Syrian refugee offering free haircuts in Idomeni

Greece, Idomeni
March 6, 2016 at 13:31 GMT +00:00 · Published

Fadi is Syrian refugee and barber, currently is living in the Idomeni refugee camp and is giving the residents of camp free haircuts.

As he explained “there is not enough water and it is overcrowded, you cannot take a shower. We are afraid of lice.” For his work he accepts small donations if people offer to help him continue his trip to Germany.

More than 13,000 refugees and migrants remained stranded at the refugee camp in Idomeni, as Macedonian authorities continue to allow only a fraction of those waiting to cross the Greek-Macedonian border.

The refugee camp is holding seven times its maximum capacity, with more refugees arriving every day. Staff from Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF, Doctors Without Borders) built two tents to house 500 refugees, but most of the camp's residents have been forced to sleep outside.

Refugees have been desperately waiting to cross the Macedonian-Greek border for days after Macedonian authorities closed their side of the border crossing last week. According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), around 35,000 refugees and migrants are currently stuck in Greece.
