Greece: Turkish and Greek foreign ministers meet to discuss refugee crisis

Greece, Athens

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met with his Greek counterpart Nikolaos Kotzias in the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens, Friday, to discuss on the ongoing refugee crisis.

Following the meeting, both diplomats held a press conference where they agreed that the refugee crisis is a global issue that has disproportionately affected Greece and Turkey.

"We both agreed that the refugee crisis is not an issue of Greece or Turkey, neither can it be restricted within the Greek-Turkish relationship. It is a global problem in its European expression, which concerns Europe as a whole," Kotzias stated.

"Syria and Iraq are some of the issues we have deeply discussed and will discuss further in the future. These are issues of a worldwide class, not only European. However, on a humanitarian level, the impact on Greece and Turkey is huge," Cavusoglu said.

Cavusoglu went on to urge all parties involved to take action, saying: "We should concentrate on how we should give a solution to this enormous flow, which has become a crisis, a humanitarian crisis too. Every side must take action."
