Russia: Nanny who decapitated 4-year-old appears in Moscow court
A nanny accused of decapitating a child in Moscow earlier in the week appeared in court in the Russian capital, Wednesday. Judge Tatiana Vasyuchenko ordered that the nanny, Gulchekhra Bobokulova, be detained until the end of April, adding that she may have had accomplices.
The 38-year-old Uzbek woman has reportedly accepted her guilt for the crime after willingly cooperating with her arrest. Enforcing Bobokulova’s duration of restraint until April 29, Judge Vasyuchenko stated that there is “enough evidence to suggest that there were determined accomplices” to the killing of the nanny’s ward.
Bobokulova was arrested after she was seen bearing the severed head of a child at Moscow's 'Oktyabrskoe pole' underground station. The child was later identified as four-year-old Anastasia Meshcheryakova.
Following the woman's arrest, authorities discovered the child's home had been set on fire. Law enforcement later discovered the headless body of the four-year-old in the flat.
The suspect allegedly waited until Meshcheryakova's parents left the flat, later strangling the child to death before decapitating her.
Bobokulova is currently undergoing psychological evaluation.
