Switzerland: Gianni Infantino elected FIFA president

The former UEFA Secretary General Gianni Infantino became FIFA's 9th president on Friday in Zurich, giving a press conference after being picked for the position.

The 45-year-old Italian-Swiss national won the presidential elections after entering the second round of voting with 115 votes while, followed by Sheikh Salman al-Khalifa who gathered 88 votes.

During the press conference that followed the elections he stressed that he would work to "make sure that we bring football back to FIFA and FIFA back to football."

Infatino succeed the Swiss FIFA President Sepp Blatter who was banned from taking part in FIFA activities for the next eight years after allegedly becoming embroiled in several scandals related to bribery and money laundering.
