Iran: Ayatollah Khamenei casts vote as parliamentary elections kick off
Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cast his vote in Iran's parliamentary elections at a polling station in Tehran, Friday.
Speaking to press at the polling station, Khamenei said: "We have enemies who are green with envy. So these elections have to play out in a way that disappoints the enemy. Pay attention and vote with your eyes wide open. God willing the God almighty will reward our people".
The election is expected to be a tight contest between reformists close to President Hassan Rouhani, who are hoping to build on the rapprochement with the West initiated by last year's nuclear accord, and more conservative hardliners.
