Ukraine: Scuffles erupt at 'Heavenly Hundred' commemoration in Odessa
Scuffles erupted at a Saturday commemoration ceremony in Odessa for the so-called 'Heavenly Hundred' who were killed during the Maidan protests in February 2014.
Before a plaque honouring those who died was unveiled, a disagreement occurred between attendees. The reportedly took place after Gregory Grinshpun, a 'Fatherland' party politician, refused to use the Ukrainian language.
The Euromaidan protests began on November 21, 2013, and escalated on November 30, leading to the removal from power of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
Over 100 people, later dubbed the 'Heavenly Hundred,' are believed to have died during violence in Kiev over the 19-21 February 2014. Many of those killed at the Maidan are believed to have been shot by unknown snipers, while 18 members of Ukrainian security forces were also killed.
