
Russia: South Military District airborne troops put on full combat alert
The non-integrated airborne forces and military transport aviation of Russia's South Military District were put on full combat alert at 05:00 Moscow time (02:00 GMT), confirmed the country's defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, at a briefing in Moscow on Monday.
Shoigu also announced that forces were inspected with regard to their combat readiness in varying situations and without prior warning. "It is necessary to practice the whole range of problems solved by command facilities and troops, including the fight against terrorist threats, the elimination of consequences of natural and man-made disasters," explained the defence minister. He also said that the manoeuvrability of units will be assessed.
