Syria: At least 45 killed, 110 injured in Damascus blasts
At least 45 people were killed and 110 injured after militants from the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL) carried out a series of coordinated bombings in the Sayeda Zeinab district of Damascus on Sunday, the Syrian Interior Ministry said.
According to Syrian state media, the IS militants first detonated a car bomb close to a public transport hub. As people were being rescued two suicide bombers then blew themselves up close to the site of the first bombing. The attack took place close to Syria's holiest Shiite shrine, the Sayeda Zeinab Shrine.
At least 250,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in 2011.
