State of Palestine: Hamas hold Gaza City funeral procession for 7 killed fighters
Thousands of Palestinians took part in a funeral procession for the seven members of Hamas' armed wing al-Qassam Brigade, in Gaza City on Friday. The seven men lost their lives in a collapse while trying to repair a tunnel near the border at Rafah, which had already collapsed in places two days prior to the fatal incident.
Huge crowds attended Friday prayers in the mosque where the bodies of the deceased were taken prior to the funeral, in accordance with Muslim tradition. The overcrowding of the mosque's surrounding could have ended in a tragedy as a tin roof collapsed under the weight of dozens of people who used it as a vantage point. Some fell on the attendees below and some hung from the telephone wires crossing right next to the roof, just as the Hamas militants started carrying out the deceased members on stretchers and loading them on transportation vehicles.
The funeral of the seven men was also attended by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal.
