Russia: 'Truth & justice must triumph,' says Lavrov on 13yo victim of alleged rape

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed grave concern about the alleged kidnapping and rape of a 13-year-old Russian girl named only as Lisa at a press conference in Moscow, Tuesday.

Lavrov said "it is absolutely clear that the girl disappeared involuntarily for 30 hours" and warned against "an attempt to varnish reality with political correctness." He expressed his hope that "truth and justice must triumph in this situation" and "that there won't be a repetition of the cases as with our girl Lisa."

In the beginning of January a teenage girl was allegedly kept against her will by men purportedly of Middle-Eastern background. The Berlin police released a statement claim that there had been no rape or abduction after an investigation. That is despite Lisa not making it to school and going missing for over a day and returning home with what her parents say were signs of beating and sexual assault.

Russia's top diplomat also said that relations between Russia and Germany are not "in crisis."

"I would not characterise relations between Russia and Germany as being in crisis, and even less so as being at an impasse. We are having a very, very intense dialogue at the highest level between the president of Russia and the chancellor of Germany, and at the foreign ministers' level as well as other ministries," said the foreign minister.

Lavrov said this positive progression was "primarily due to the position of the German business" and "a number of mechanisms that help us to move forward," despite "complications" in an apparent reference to sanctions.

Ties with Germany have arguably been strained for some time due to the issues surrounding the conflict in Ukraine that ultimately led to EU-imposed sanctions on Moscow.
