
France: Corbyn hailed by camp residents following Calais visit
Refugees and volunteers situated at the Grand-Synthe refugee camp in Calais hailed Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn for visiting the camp, following the politician's visit earlier on Saturday.
Speaking about Corbyn's visit, one refugee said: "Today Jeremy Corbyn was here to get an update about Calais and what exactly the situation is here." He went on to add that "Our real goal is to get to the UK and that is why we had a meeting with Jeremy Corbyn so he can know what excactly we are looking for and what we want."
Talking about Corbyn's visit, a volunteer working at the camp said: "he actually walked around, coming by himself. He met with people from different backgrounds. He sat in the camp and listened very very carefully and assured them as the leader of the opposition what ever he can do, he will do it."
The importance of the politician's visit was highlighted by another volunteer who said: "He knows parliament and he has come to listen and go back to do what he can with oher people from Britain. Because our solution lies in Britain, we have to put pressure in Britain for you."
