UK: Farage launches cross-party Brexit platform

United Kingdom, Kettering
January 23, 2016 at 21:04 GMT +00:00 · Published

Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) launched in Kettering, Saturday, a new cross-party group to campaign for the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union (EU). The so-called "Grassroots out" is backed by Tory MPs Peter Bone and Tom Pursglove and Labour’s Kate Hoey.

While holding a speech at the Kettering Conference Centre, Farage referred to refugees and migrants, and the UK's planned referendum for exiting the EU. "The key issue that I believe will win us this referendum is the fact that as a member of this union we now have a open door to nearly half a million people, any of whom can come in to our country," he said.

Discussing the New Year’s Eve "genuinely shocking" incidents in Cologne he stated that "there’s no room for complacency." He went on to openly attack the German chancellor saying that "the European Union has made a massive error with its open door policy to anyone that wants to come, an error compounded hideously by Angela Merkel."

An in-or-out referendum on UK’s membership in the EU will be held before the end of 2017. Prime Minister David Cameron has promised to renegotiate the terms of the UK's membership of the 28-country bloc.
