Russia: Putin promises to do all "efforts in order to maintain the stability of small businesses”

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke during a session of the All-Russian Business Forum devoted to small business development, which took place in Moscow on Wednesday.

Talking about the difficulties the country’s economy faced in the last two years, the Russian President said that “external complications affected almost every sector”. He also noted that “in general businesses survived, including small ones,” and sated that “it is necessary to exert all efforts in order to maintain the stability of small businesses” as challenges should not stop “the inflow of educated, modern-thinking and enterprising people to this sector”.

Putin also expressed his view on how work on business evolution should be carried out “together with the regions and with regional teams” so as “to determine the directions where business are in-demand”. The president believes that “only then will it be possible to achieve a qualitative breakthrough”.

Issues concerning small businesses in Russia were already addressed by Putin in his annual speech to the Federal Assembly. He once again emphasised that despite external economic restrictions Russia will pursue the strategy of business freedom inside the country.
