Germany: Influx of migrants should be reduced says Vice Chancellor Gabriel
Vice Chancellor of Germany Sigmar Gabriel stated that the number of refugees entering Germany should be decreased, speaking in Berlin, Wednesday.
Talking at the sidelines of a meeting with the German Trade Unions (DGB), Gabriel made statements regarding migration and integration measures. "We know that our country stands under an extreme strain. It is crystal clear that we should decrease the influx of migrants this year. We will do whatever it takes through cooperation with our international partners, with Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, so as to receive less migrants on an annual basis.", he stated.
He went on to stress that the government should ensure that Germans, along with people of other nationalities "do not have the feeling of being neglected."
He also added that "we have to ensure that new residences are being built not only for refugees but also for all the people in Germany and especially those looking for affordable housing in big cities."
According to UNHCR Germany has received nearly 250,000 refugees and 311,000 asylum seekers, as of June 2015.
