The Mexican goverment released footage of the raid which brought down the notorious drug lord 'El Chapo', Monday. The video shows a fierce gun battle after police stormed the criminal's compound on Thursday evening in the Mexican city of Los Mochis.

Security forces stormed the house after receiving a tip off. A heavy gun battle broke out on entry, ending in five suspects being shot dead, and the arrest of six others, according to a statement from the Mexican Navy. One navy officer was also wounded during the operation.

Guzman's recapture comes after the cartel kingpin made a miraculous escape from Altiplano Prison in the town of Almolova de Juarez on July 11. Authorities later found a 10 metre (32 feet) deep hole with a ladder in El Chapo's prison cell, which led to the tunnel fitted with lighting and ventilation. The tunnel also contained a specially modified motorbike, which ran on tracks.

Guzman had previously escaped from a prison in 2001 by hiding in a laundry basket after bribing prison officials, but was recaptured in 2014. At least 49 people are being questioned as authorities believe the crime boss received inside help. The prison's director and other officials were fired by Mexico's interior minister following the incident.
