
Australia: Firefighters battle huge blaze at Melbourne tyre yard
More than 100 firefighters battled a huge blaze at a tyre yard in Melbourne, Monday. Two water bombers were called in to help control the fire which had spread across more than 150,000 tyres.
Melbourne's Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) stated that more than 10,000 litres of water were being dropped on the blaze every minute in an attempt to control the flames. Huge plumes of toxic smoke could be seen rising above the tyre yard leading the MFB to issue a warning to residents to stay indoors in 15 suburbs of northern Melbourne.
The cause of the fire has yet to be established and an investigation as been launched into the incident.
