Spain: Barcelona celebrates pro-independence regional govt. deal
Hundreds of people celebrated in front of the Palau de la Generalitat in Barcelona, Saturday, following an agreement to make a regional government between the two pro-independence political parties, Junts pel Si (Together for Yes) and leftist Popular Unity Candidates (CUP).
Carles Puigdemont, who has replaced former Catalan President Artur Mas, will head up the regional government and push for Catalan independence, side-stepping the necessity for new regional elections.
Earlier the same day Mas announced that he would step aside for a new regional president.
