
Brazil: Police and protesters clash in Sao Paulo over transport fare hikes
A protest organised by activists demonstrating against price rises in public transport fares ended in widespread turmoil and confrontation between masked protesters and riot police in Sao Paulo, Friday.
Around 7,000 protesters took to the streets for the demonstration, despite claims by city authorities that the price rises remain below inflation.
According to police sources 17 arrests were made during the protest and at least three police officers were injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment.
