      German: Protesters march on Saudi consulate to decry execution of Shia cleric

      Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Saudi Arabian consulate in Frankfurt, Friday, to protest the execution of 47 people by Saudi authorities last weekend, including prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.

      Demonstrators held banners decrying the recent execution, while chanting anti-Saudi and pro-human-rights slogans.

      Saudi Arabia's decision to execute several prisoners on terrorist charges, including al-Nimr has sparked protests in Islamic and non-Islamic countries alike. The executions have also caused major tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran, resulting in the countries severing diplomatic relations.
