Russia: Crimean PM hails renewed Russian gas supply to Ukraine's Genichesk

Russian Federation, Simferopol

Ukrainian people “don’t have any luck now” in their desire to “live in a normal and successful country,” said Prime Minister of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksenov, during an interview in Simferopol, on Tuesday.

Aksenov stated that Ukrainian citizens “do not have to suffer in this difficult situation,” in reference to the recent energy cuts that have hit parts of Ukraine.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russia began supplying the southern Ukrainian city of Genichesk with natural gas, via Crimea, after regular blackouts left 1,500 residents suffering in -14 degrees Celsius (6.8 degrees Fahrenheit) without gas for cooking and heating. He praised the renewed supply of gas that according to reports from Russian company Chornomornaftogaz has doubled in terms of pressure.

Aksenov went on to criticise the Kiev government’s “propaganda machine” that has offered conflicting reports. “They erect this lie into the frames of public policy. So, don’t pay attention to it. The gas is flowing,” said the Crimean PM.

Genichesk mayor Aleksandr Tulupov made a public appeal to Russia to supply gas to the city's affected areas through Crimea, after which the Russian President Vladimir Putin gave orders to provide supplies based on 'humanitarian considerations.'
