USA: Obama's new year resolution to tackle gun violence
New gun control laws must be implemented in order to effectively tackle "the epidemic of gun violence," US President Barack Obama said from the White House in Washington, D.C. on Friday.
"My New Year's resolution is to move forward on our unfinished business as much as I can," he said, adding: "that's especially true for one piece of unfinished business - our epidemic of gun violence."
"Each time we're told that common sense reforms like background checks might not have stopped the last massacre, or the one before that, so we shouldn't do anything. We know we can't stop every act of violence. But what if we tried to stop even one," Obama added.
On Monday, Obama is scheduled to meet Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss further steps toward implementation of laws to curb gun violence.
