
Netherlands: 10,000 people take the plunge in Scheveningen New Year's dive
Around 10,000 people gathered at a beach in Scheveningen, Friday, for the traditional New Year's Day dive. At exactly 12 pm local time, the divers headed into the cold North Sea water.
The Scheveningen dive's 56th edition witnessed a clear blue sky this year, with temperatures of about 8.5 degrees Celsius (47 Fahrenheit). The dive at the Hague's seaside resort is the biggest in the country. There are annually up to 138 New Year's dives in the Netherlands, in which an estimated 51,000 people participate.
There were no incidents of hypothermia or other first aid cases reported.
