Spain: Is Evovelo's solar-powered 'Mo' car the future for driving in cities?
:
Evovelo's 'Mo' vehicle is a creation of a group of Spanish entrepreneurs, who developed vehicles to transport people and goods with criterias of efficiency, sustainability and respect for the environment. Footage shot in Malaga on Thursday shows the car in motion while partner of Evovelo and co-creator of Mo Gonzalo Chomon explains how the vehicle is powered.
The vehicle has an embedded a solar panel in the roof, which allows the battery to charge at any time as long as there is sunlight. In case of bad weather, the wall battery can be charged from electricity sources, including a regular wall plug, within one or two hours. The vehicle has low purchasing and maintenance costs, which makes it available to a range of customers. In a full electric mode, the transport is able to develop the speed up to 50km/h (31mph) and can be used for 50-80 km per day depending on whether the driver uses the pedals to increase the range.
The vehicle is compact, it is 140cm (55in) wide, 200cm (79in) long, and 130cm (51in) high and can carry two adults plus luggage and children on a special seat. According to Chomon "the vehicle is mostly constructed with sustainable materials and it is close to a net energy vehicle."
Evovelo is a cooperative company, whose mission is to create vehicles, allowing personal mobility without overusing materials and energy resources of the planet. The approximate cost of the vehicle is €4,500 ($4,940).
