USA: Police shutdown BLM protest in Minneapolis mall, rally moves to airport
Police officers armed with batons and riot gear prevented anti-police brutality activists from marching through Minneapolis's Mall of America in Minnesota on Wednesday. The Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters later moved the rally to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport later in the afternoon after being evicted from the mall. The demonstration reportedly caused traffic delays. Four people have reportedly been arrested.
Activists tried to rally at the shopping centre one day after a judge barred three local organisers from participating in demonstrations. They were greeted at their arrival by police in riot gear, as well as electronic signs saying that the demonstration was not authorised and that those who fail to leave the premises will be subject to arrest. At least one man was reportedly arrested.
Protests against police brutality began in Minneapolis on November 15, after a police officer killed a 24-year-old black man Jamar Clark. Clark was reportedly handcuffed when he was shot down, according to activists. Police sources denied this claim. Protesters have asked for any video of Clark's death to be released, but police forces have not provided any so far.
