USA: Huge 'meteor' seen hurtling over Las Vegas skies
Thousands were left awestruck while staring at the Nevada skyline on Tuesday night, after a giant glowing object was spotted hurtling over the Las Vegas skies.
With speculation running rife as to the source of the unidentified flying object, many believed the sky-born object to be a meteor falling to earth. Scientists have also hypothesised that the object may have been a piece of debris from a space-craft, with Bob Pippin of the CSN Planetarium in southern Nevada reporting that it could have been a satellite.
No stranger to mystery, Nevada is well-accustomed to peculiar goings-on, being home to both the notorious Area 51 military base and the US's very own "Extraterrestrial Highway". While sci-fi enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists may speculate, the verdict is still out on the Las Vegas' latest 'meteor'.
*UPDATE*
US Strategic Command spokeswoman Julie Ziegenhorn has said in a statement that the giant glowing object spotted hurtling over the Las Vegas skies was a fragment of Russian rocket booster (an SL-4) re-entering the atmosphere. The rocket was launched on Monday.
