Russia: Putin announces launch of high efficiency energy units in Moscow and Sverdlovsk
New modern gas units with high energy capacities were launched in Moscow and Serov in the Sverdlovsk Region, during an online conference of the Russian President Vladimir Putin with Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, from Moscow, Tuesday. The launching of the power units coincided with the 95th anniversary of the GOELRO plan, the first-ever Soviet plan for national economic recovery and development.
"We are launching new modern gas energy units with energy capacity up to 420 Megawatts at the TPP-20 [thermal power plant] in Moscow and Serov GRES Coal Power Plant in Sverdlovsk Region," Putin said, adding that "turbines have been produced by our German partners from Siemens and our enterprise Power Machines."
Putin went on to stress that new energy units will "increase energy production capacity" and "improve reliability of heat and electricity supply" as well as reduce the energy deficit," adding that "the electric power capacity of the [Serov GRES] station will double."
Alexander Novak confirmed that Russian electric power industry continues to develop "actively." Moreover, a large-scale program on constructing of the high efficiency generating capacities is being realised."
