
Turkey: Gunshots echo across Diyarbakir as violence continues
Gunfire could be heard in Diyarbakir, Thursday, as violence between the Turkish authorities and Kurdish groups continued to rock the city.
On Monday, violent clashes broke out between demonstrators, rallying against a government enforced curfew in the city, and police. Two protesters were killed as a consequence.
The fighting between Turkish security forces and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has in recent months, had led the government to impose multiple curfews over the south-east of Turkey.
An estimated 171 Turkish security forces personnel, 195 militants and 157 civilians were killed between January 1 and December 5 2015, according to statistics published by the Human Rights Association (IHD) and the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TIHV).
