
Iran: Rouhani says nuclear deal will be fully implemented within weeks
Iran will take the final steps to implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action within the next weeks, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced at a press conference in Tehran, Wednesday.
His statement came after the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency's (AIEA) 12-year-long probe into the country's past nuclear activities was closed on Tuesday, marking a milestone towards lifting international sanctions against Iran. "Yesterdays achievement was not just a legal or technical achievement," Rouhani stated, adding that "It became clear that this establishment has been acting honestly with its own people and the world."
Iranian authorities expect sanctions to be lifted in mid-January. The move will will enable the country to resume trade via international financial systems, receive $100 billion of its frozen assets and re-enter the international oil markets.
