Serbia: Meet Garfield, 'the oldest cat in Europe'

The unofficial 'oldest cat in Europe,' 23-year-old 'Garfield,' was shown off by his owner in Belgrade, Friday. Despite having diabetes and being deaf, Garfield behaves like any other cat; enjoying playing with balls, cuddling and smelling flowers, according to this owner Branislav Soskic.

"He is for sure the oldest in Europe," said Soskic, who cited the recent death of 'Poppy,' an English cat, which previously held the title, as proof of Garfield's position as the most elderly feline in the continent.

Cats usually do not live much beyond the age of 15, so Garfield's longevity has come as some surprise to the Soskic family. The human equivalent to Garfield's 23 years is a staggering 108-years-old.
