Russia: Inactivity of US-coalition confirmed by growing ISIS problem - Zakharova
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned that Afghanistan "still remains one of the major sources of the global terrorist threat," during her weekly press briefing in Moscow, Thursday.
Zakharova said that there was "significant strengthening as well as rivalry between various terrorist groups" in the country, adding that in order to counter the threat the international community should base its actions on the "rules and principles of international law" as well as "the provisions of the UN Charter."
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also accused the American-led coalition in Syria of only "simulating the fight against ISIS and real terrorism" and of acting "on its own politicised approach to the situation, which runs counter to international law," adding that "the inactivity of the actions of the [US-led] coalition was distinctly confirmed by the growing ISIS problem."
Zakharova also noted the significance that "France, Great Britain and Germany are able to make a real contribution" in the fight against the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), while stressing the need to "cooperate with those countries which are exposed to direct terrorist attacks."
