Germany: Merkel heckled by protester at Leipzig train line inauguration
German Chancellor Angela Merkel was greeted in Leipzig by several detractors in Leipzig on Wednesday, during the inauguration of the new express train line between Erfurt and Halle-Leipzig.
The protester was carrying a large red sign reading “anti-Merkel,” flashing the placard as the chancellor talked to several admirers. Police monitored the situation but did not intervene in the protest.
The new 123 kilometre-long express train line between Erfurt and Halle-Leipzig was inaugurated by Merkel in what she described as a gift for the 25th anniversary of German reunification. The new train lines are part of the so-called "Verkehrsprojekts Deutsche Einheit 8" or “Transport Project German Unity 8” which will connect Nuernberg and Berlin from 2017.
