Kola’s new surface-to-air regiment began their anti-aircraft duty, taking up defensive positions in combat readiness at their station at the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, protecting the Northern Fleet, Wednesday. The regiment are tasked with defending the border and airspace of the Russian Federation.

The regiment is equipped with the upgraded S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, which are capable of hitting the enemy targets in a radius of several hundred kilometres.

The surface-to-air missile regiment are the first full-fledged military unit of the Northern Fleet, formed on the islands of the Arctic Ocean.
