Russian Foreign Minster Sergei Lavrov, alongside Mexican Ambassador to Russia Ruben Beltran, led celebrations dedicated to the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mexico in Moscow, Thursday.

Underlining the importance of ties between the two states Lavrov said “Mexico is second on the list of our foreign trade partners in Latin America”. Addressing Beltran, Lavrov noted that “today’s exhibition is evidence of the high level of bilateral collaboration,” speaking about an archival exhibition showcased at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lavrov lauded the fact that trade turnover had tripled in recent years between the two countries, adding that “this increase is noticeable first of all in hi-tech sphere, including the import of Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100s to Mexico.”

Russia’s top diplomat went on to express hope that reforms set to be introduced in Mexico “will create new opportunities for our cooperation.”
