Serbia: Gunmen attack village close to Albanian border
The village of Gorazdevac, near Pec, was attacked by gunmen early on Monday morning. The village is located in western Serbia, not far from the border with Albania. Serbian politician Marko Djuric, who visited the village shortly after the incident, told local media that the attack was carried out by 'ethnic Albanian extremists.'
Local resident Sasa Petrovic explained how his house came under fire while he, his wife and daughter were sleeping. "I assumed this was some kind of provocation but I didn't know they were shooting towards our house. At that moment, I couldn't determine that. After ten minutes we went out, it was still dark but we could see some marks from the rifle and one of the bullets ended inside the house, in the bathroom," Petrovic said.
Another local resident named Mirjana Sbrljak said: "We know that this will happen again, and again and again. We are aware of who we are and where we are. We are just target meat and we are waiting our turn."
As well as firing at houses, the gunmen also desecrated a memorial to the victims of the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War.
