Russia: Two police officers killed during a heist on a bank security van
At least two policemen died and another was wounded during an armed heist on a bank security van, in St. Petersburg, Friday.
The attackers reportedly ambushed the police officers at an intersection, reportedly killing two outright after an automatic fire exchange. The third was injured and allegedly seriously burned when his vehicle caught fire. He was apparently dragged to safety by passers-by.
The attackers reportedly made-off with a large amount of cash from the bank's 'cash-and-transit' vehicle which the police had been escorting. Eyewitnesses statements claimed that the vehicle in which the suspects escaped was Chevrolet Lanos.
