
Iraq: Millions mark Arbaeen in Karbala
Millions of Shia Muslims are gathering in Karbala to celebrate the Arbaeen ritual, Thursday. According to state media, some 22 million pilgrims have visited the city for this year's event - a new record for the annual gathering.
Arbaeen marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in the seventh-century, the third Shia Imam and Mohammed's grandson.
Extra security forces have been brought in in a bid to prevent attacks.
