Unites States Secretary of State John Kerry was among foreign ministers and delegates from the member states of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) gathered at the Kombank Arena in Belgrade, Thursday, for the opening session of the 22nd OSCE Ministerial Council.

Unites States Secretary of State John Kerry welcomed the United Kingdom's decision to join the US-led coalition's airstrikes against Syria and Germany's decision to send more troops, stating that the decision meant "our campaign to degrade and destroy Daesh [IS] grew stronger," adding "those steps are clear signs of the international community's unity and resolve."

Kerry spoke on the his wish for political transition in Syria, stating that it would allow "the Syrian Army together with the opposition, together with all the surrounding countries, together with Russia, the Unites States and others, to go and fight Daesh [IS]," adding "imagine how quickly this scourge could be eliminated in a matter of literally months, if we were able to secure that kind of political resolution."

Kerry also spoke on the Ukrainian conflict calling on all sides to implement the Minsk agreement and to allow for elections in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.

The OSCE Ministerial Council (originally, Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs) has convened annually since 1973 and is the central governing body of the OSCE. Hosted by Serbian Foreign Minister Ivaca Dacic, the 2015 OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the meeting will bring together 1,500 officials and the foreign ministers of 57 OSCE member states and 11 partner countries, giving them the opportunity to discuss and assess the organisation's operations over the past year. The conference will last until Friday.
