Turkey: Emergency services secure scene of Istanbul subway blast
An explosion, reportedly caused by a pipe-bomb, struck a section of the Istanbul subway on Tuesday. The number of injured is currently unknown, but reports state that at least one person was killed following the blast. The explosion occurred close to the Bayrampasa metro station.
A further five people have reportedly sustained injuries, with the suspension of sections of the subway network taken as a security precaution. Those who were on the train walked along the tracks, with pictures of them walking down the tunnels of the network emerging across social media.
Istanbul has been under threat of an attack for some time, with the British Foreign Office warning tourists to avoid the use of the subway network, following a leaked Turkish police report in July.
