USA: Black Lives Matter protesters scuffle with police during Black Friday demo
Hundreds of protesters organised by the Black Lives Matter movement gathered at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle on the US shopping holiday of Black Friday, to protest against a spate of racist police killings, including the killing of young black teenager Laquan McDonald, who died last month after being shot 16 times by police officers.
Protesters scuffled with police as they attempted to prevent police from blockading the Westlake Centre shopping mall, while a smaller group of protesters managed to enter the shopping centre, occupying it for some time while chanting anti-racist slogans.
Black Friday is a shopping holiday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, when most major retailers open early and offer promotional sales. It has reportedly been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005.
