Syria: RT journos recognise FSA affiliate video as attack on them

'First Coastal Division' militants who are affiliated to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) released footage on Wednesday of them shooting what appears to be a BGM-71 TOW missile at vehicles that are believed to be those of RT correspondents Roman Kosarev and Sargon Hadaya who were injured when an anti-tank shell exploded near their convoy in the Latakia region on Tuesday.

Some suggest that the weapon in the video is a US-built BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missile that has been provided to the so-called 'moderate' militant group by Washington DC.

After the video was posted to his Twitter feed, Kosarev said that "the landscape is very reminiscent of the one where we came under fire from militants a couple of days ago," before going on to notice that on close inspection, people can be seen fleeing. "I'm pretty sure that must have been us," he said before going on to explain why by comparing the First Coastal Division's footage with video shot by him and his colleagues. The same house can be seen in both videos, according to the journalist. He also recalled that "after the attack, the Syrian army brought us what they said was a launcher from the rocket that hit the media convoy," and that it looked like "it could have been part of a TOW system," something that experts concurred with.

The two RT journalists were travelling with TASS reporter Alexander Elistratov who was also injured by shrapnel, sustaining wounds to his hand. The seasoned journalists are some of the dozens of reporters to have been either injured or killed since the Syrian conflict began in 2011.
