Russia: Turkey to potentially face Russian sanctions - PM Medvedev
Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev asked his cabinet to prepare potential sanctions against Turkey, following the shooting down of a Russian jet over Syria, an act he labelled as "definite" aggression, Thursday, from Moscow.
Speaking to the Russian cabinet, Medvedev said the relevant ministries were to compile "an outline of the imposition of restrictions and prohibitions" against Turkey. He stated "the government was tasked with developing a system of measures in the economic and humanitarian spheres to respond to this act of aggression."
The sanctions would hit "Turkey's economic structures on Russian territory" and involve "the supply of some products, including provisions on the performance of work and services." Among the areas affected would be "investment projects and partnership that were defined by a high level of credibility by Turkey.
The prime minister tasked the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Culture, Customs and other departments to come-up with relevant measures within two days.
Turkey shot down a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 jet with two pilots on board on Tuesday, which led to the death of one pilot. The search and rescue operation then led to the death of a Russian marine.
