Venezuela: Maduro receives Emir of Qatar to discuss stabilisation of energy market
President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro met with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Miraflores Palace in Caracas, Wednesday, to sign several bilateral agreements and discuss stabilising prices in the global energy market.
During the meeting Maduro said the two countries "have been partners for many years," and that he sought to take those ties to a new level.
The Emir of Qatar arrived in Venezuela on Tuesday after an official visit to Mexico and Cuba, as part of his Latin American tour with the aim of strengthening ties of cooperation, especially in regard to stabilising the fossil fuel market. The focus of Maduro and the Emir's meeting was the question of fluctuating oil prices, following a 50 percent fall in market value. The crash has been linked to large scale US shale oil exports flooding the global market.
