Russia: Putin inspects new IFV based on T-14 Armata platform
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited one of the country's largest engineering complexes in Nizhni Tagil on Wednesday, the site of research and manufacturing facilities belonging to the Uralvagonzavod corporation. He inspected a new infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) based on the T-14 Armata platform.
The corporation is responsible for the design and manufacture of some of Russia's most high-tech military equipment, including tanks, infantry transport and air defence vehicles. The company is well known for developing the modernised T-90S and 'Terminator' tanks, as well as Russia's latest tank the T-14 Armata.
The Armata tank was on public display for the first time in May during Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. The main feature of the tank is an armoured capsule for the crew separate from the ammunition rack. This increases the chances of survival for the servicemen even if the ammunition were to ignite.
