Lebanon: Anti-govt protesters rally in Beirut on Lebanese Independence Day
Demonstrators from several trade unions and civil organisations took to the streets of Beirut, Sunday, to protest against the government and corruption on Lebanese Independence Day.
Organised by the 'We Want Accountability' and 'YouStink' movements, protesters marched across the Lebanese capital from the National Museum to Martyrs' Square. Lebanese singer and model Myriam Klink joined the protest and addressed the crowd from her bright pink Hummer.
The YouStink campaign began after protesters took to the streets to demand long-term, sustainable solutions to deal with Beirut's waste management issues, but has since developed into a widespread anti-corruption campaign. The We Want Accountability movement was created to denounce corruption in the country.
