Ukraine: Poroshenko heckled during Euromaidan commemoration in Kiev
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was heckled by protesters during a commemorative ceremony devoted to the so-called Heaven's Hundred Heroes in Kiev, Saturday.
Poroshenko came to the Cross of the Heaven's Hundred Heroes to lay flowers and light candles. After Poroshenko shouted the Ukrainian greeting slogan "Glory to Ukraine!" he was booed by a group of protesters who came to decry the country's financial situation.
Giving reasons for the protest, one man said: "Neither Poroshenko, nor the authorities… they don't care for the people. We stay here with our questions concerning Financial Maidan… due to the same slapdash attitude. They neither want to hear us nor to hold restructuring measures. We wanted to come and ask questions, to show ourselves. We are second-class people, like most Ukrainians now. Only the elite was admitted there. That's what our authorities and the situation in the country are like currently."
The range of commemorative events have been organised in Kiev in celebration of the Day of Dignity and Freedom of Ukraine and dedicated to the events surrounding Euromaidan in November 2013.
