Netherlands: Suspicious Belgian car found in Rotterdam
Dutch police searched a car registered with a Belgian number plate that was recognised as "suspicious" in Rotterdam on Wednesday.
The white Mercedes had been noted as suspicious after it crossed the Netherlands border from Belgium. The car was found parked in Rotterdam, near a restaurant where the city's mayor, Ahmed Aboutaleb, was sat eating his dinner. The restaurant was promptly evacuated as a precaution, while police closed off the road to investigate.
Three people inside the car were detained by police. Authorities has not given any further information about their identity. Following the deadly Paris attacks last Friday, police authorities in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands have been on red alert in the search for perpetrators. Several Belgian suspects were involved in the attacks and a black Clio rented by fugitive suspect Salah Abdeslam, had a Belgian number plate.
