Germany: Protesters rally against plans for Dresden refugee shelter
Dozens of protesters from the Dresden neighbourhood of Laubegast gathered in front of the Prinz Eugen hotel, Wednesday, to demonstrate against the city council's plans to turn it into a refugee shelter.
The four-star hotel, located next to Elbe, was sold to the city council at the beginning of November. Ever since, dozens of locals have been marching almost every day once it became known that the building would host 94 refugees starting on March 2016.
Protesters argue that criminality would increase due to the arrival of refugees and express their fear that potential terrorists could be infiltrated among the refugees.
Dresden has accommodated 2,093 refugees so far while this number is due to reach approximately 4,000 by 2016, which is why the city is looking for new shelters.
