Syria: Russian Sukhoi jets head to IS territory from Latakia airbase
Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24 jets continued to embark on missions targeting the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) from Russia's Hmeymim airbase in Latakia, Monday.
It is now the eighth week of the air campaign, which was launched after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad sought Russian support in battling the militant organisation and other insurgent opposition groups who have taken up armed conflict against the Syrian government.
According to officials, over 1,300 militant targets have already been hit or destroyed by Russian jets since the first airstrikes took place on September 30.
